Preparing for a competitive examination is hard enough. Using the tool should not be. This page says how we test, what we know we have not solved, and how to tell us when we have got it wrong.

What we test, and when

Every release is checked automatically against the WCAG 2.2 AA rule set, along with the 2.0 and 2.1 A and AA rules and a set of general best-practice rules. The checks run in a real browser on real pages, at both a phone width and a desktop width, in light and dark appearance. A release does not ship while one of them is failing.

What we have built deliberately

• Every question is a proper radio group, so a screen reader announces the options and how many there are.
• The whole practice flow works from the keyboard, and the focus outline is never removed.
• A skip link jumps past the navigation straight to the answer options.
• Results and errors are announced when they appear, rather than changing silently on screen.
• Hands-free study reads a question and its options aloud and accepts a spoken answer, for anyone who finds reading on a screen difficult or is studying while their hands are busy.
• Colour is never the only signal. Where a colour marks something, a word or a shape marks it too.

What our testing does not cover

This is the part most statements leave out. Automated checking decides only part of the standard — broadly, the machine- checkable part. It cannot judge whether a description of an image is a fair substitute for seeing it, whether the reading order of a page matches the order a person would expect, or whether an instruction makes sense when heard rather than read. We have not yet commissioned an independent audit of those, so we do not claim full conformance.

Two limits we already know about. Questions built around a map, a diagram or a data table need sight to answer, and hands-free study leaves them out of a spoken set rather than pretending to read them aloud. And the marking of handwritten answers is, by its nature, for people who write their answers by hand.
